How to Make an Film Journal

Film journals are what they sound like. They are journals for films. They have pictures and writing and are fun to make. So get your sketchbook or journal and your favorite movie/show, and make a film journal NOW!

Film Journal for Call Me By Your Name

1) Not Many Supplies Necessary

The main supplies needed for a film journal are colored paper, glue, pens, scissors, and any coloring material(markers, colored pencils, etc.). If you want to glue images into your journal, you will also need a printer, but if you don’t have any of these materials, it doesn’t matter because you can make your film journal any way you want.

2) Choose a Color Scheme for your Movie

Depending on the film’s visuals, you should have a color scheme. For instance, I had a color scheme of brown, orange, and light blue for the movie Pride and Prejudice. For a horror movie, the color scheme could be red and black.

3) Write a Summary or Rating

Writing a summary of the movie helps make your film journal a “journal.” If your movie is book-based, you can also write about the book and rate them both. Write about your thoughts or add information like the movie director, film length, and starring actors.

4) Add Quotes

Write quotes in your film journal, whether it is a funny one-liner, an inspirational quote, or something you can relate to. Adding a quote can help you remember this movie more.

5) Adding Texture

A film journal doesn’t have to be completely flat; it’s nice to have some texture, like colored paper or printed pictures. Stickers are also an option; maybe put some small star stickers for the movie rating.

6) Print Pictures

Pictures bring everything to life, so printing out your favorite scenes or characters from a movie is a great idea. It’s important to know the dimensions of your pictures; you want to make sure that they are not too big or small for your journal.

7) Draw Little Designs and Image Borders

Tiny details like small drawings or image borders are neat features to add to your film journal. I like to go in with a marker and outline the picture or add some design to the image border

8) Plan Out Your Film Journal Before Doing Anything

Before gluing or writing, you should know what you will add in your film journal. Cut out the paper and pictures you want to glue, and make a light outline for where you want things to go. Know your dimensions.

Now you know everything you should know about making a film journal! It’s quite simple, and making one is super fun! 😀
